Our service schedule is as follows: Friday Night ServicesĦ:15 PM In person/ Zoom/ Live Stream via YouTube You can access our live streaming YouTube feed by clicking here. We are blessed with a skilled and passionate Cantor and a cadre of congregants who lead our services each week. Shabbat morning services are participatory, warm, inspiring and egalitarian. His introduction is destined to become a classic, his characteristic energy and optimism light our way, and the words of his favorite prayers (many composed by the Archbishop himself) will stay with us forever. Our weekly Shabbat services provide meaningful opportunities for spiritual connection, community celebration, and holiness. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who is for millions the very soul of Africa, is our guide on this unique spiritual journey. From thunderous multi-invocation litanies to quiet meditations, here are prayers that every heart can speak with strength and confidence. Here are the prayers of some of the greatest among the mothers and fathers of the Church - Monica, Augustine, Clement of Alexandria, Cyprian of Carthag - as well as the prayers from the African diasporas of North America and the Caribbean. Here are Jesus' own encounters with Africa, which provided him refuge at the beginning of his life (from the murderous King Herod) and aid at its end (in the person of Simon of Cyrene, who helped Jesus carry his cross). Here we may delight in Solomon's splendid encounter with the Queen of Sheba, overhear the simple prayer of a penniless Bushman, and glory in the sensuous sonorities of the mysterious liturgies of the Egyptian Copts. The African Prayer Book is just such an aid, for in this collection all the spiritual riches of the vast and varied continent of Africa are bravely set forth. But for most believers, the words of others can be a wonderful aid to devotion, especially when these words come front faithful fellow pilgrims. Prayer, our conversation with God, needs no set formulas or flowery phrases. The great Archbishop of Capetown, South Africa, shares with us the simple but profound secrets of his extraordinary spiritual strength by unveiling his very own book of prayer. A website will support the book, inviting youth to share their own prayers.Īn African Prayer Book Book Description : A prayer and scripture index are also included. Prayers include Confirmation, obtaining a driver’s license, death of a friend, graduation, argument with a parent, moving, going to camp, table graces, seasons of the Church year, homelessness, joy, thoughts of suicide, reconciliation. Personal Prayer: Divided into categories: Faith, Through the Day, Through the Year, Self, Milestones, Friends and Family, School and Work, Community and Work. Kinds of Prayer: Traditional and original prayers of adoration, praise, thanksgiving, penitence, oblation, intercession and petition. Compline is a popular liturgy at retreats for youth. Evening Prayer will not be included because most teens are busy with homework, sports and other extracurricular programs at that time. The structure of the book will be in three parts: Common Prayer, including Morning Prayer, Compline, and Prayers of the People. Youth will find prayers to celebrate personal achievements and to address obstacles to grace and faith. It offers a wealth of diverse prayers on all manner of topics from prayers for the days of the week, to seasons of the year. This creative compilation of over 100 original prayers offers simple and insightful instruction about prayer. This prayer book designed for teens draws on the Book of Common Prayer, the Bible and events that occur in their daily lives.
